Private Antenatal Care

“Being pregnant for the first time I was terrified of birth and felt rushed in my NHS appointments, then I met Lesley. She put us both at ease from the first meeting and by the time of my daughters birth I was looking forward to it. I actually enjoyed giving birth and it was all down to Lesley, I couldn’t have done it without her”.

“My first baby was born following NHS care, and while the care was sufficient I never felt treated as an individual. Things were done for what felt like the sake of it and I felt totally out of control during his birth. Lesley totally understood my concerns and developed a sixth sense with all of my concerns and made my birth the most healing experience for us both”.

Extra Appointments to Supplement your NHS Care

Extra Appointments to Supplement your NHS Care

For peace of mind, extra care and support during your pregnancy to enhance your NHS antenatal care, Lesley offers additional appointments for you. These provide an opportunity to discuss questions you may have regarding different scenarios, such as vaginal birth after a previous caesarean section birth, induction of your labour, pain relief options and any other concerns you may have.

Early Pregnancy Consultation (1 hour)

For expectant mothers not accessing the full antenatal care package, Lesley offers an early pregnancy appointment around 6 weeks. The session covers advice on all aspects of health during pregnancy including diet, vitamin supplements, exercise and vaccinations. We can also use this time to discuss previous births along with different types of screening for chromosomal abnormalities.

Birth Plan (2 hours)

We all like to be prepared for all eventualities in life and childbirth is no different. As you will probably never have met the midwife who will look after you during a hospital birth, a birth plan can help to inform that person how you would like to be cared for in labour and during childbirth. A birth plan shouldn’t be seen as fixed in stone but something that familiarises you with the options of care for you and your baby and prepares for this beforehand. Initially, we will discuss any previous birth experiences and from there we will go through the birth plan template and I will explain the current thinking and any new research behind each topic. The consultation takes around 90 minutes with a further 30 minutes taken to complete your own ‘Bespoke Birth Plan’ highlighting your preferences.

Accompaniment to Consultant Appointments

Certain conditions of pregnancy make it safer for some of your care to be organised by a consultant obstetrician. During those meetings with a consultant you may feel that there are questions you’d like to ask but can’t, or that you should ask but don’t know. Lesley can accompany you to consultant appointments and help you to facilitate a discussion of your concerns and questions with them in a diplomatic and professional manner. Initially a telephone or Skype chat prior to the meeting will ensure Lesley is fully briefed on your situation. She will also keep a record of the conversation and provide you with a copy of this.
